Win7 RC1 - IE8 loses its cookies when computer is hard booted.
I am noticing that if the OS (Win7 Build 7100 RC1)is unexpectedly shut down then all the state data in IE is lost. I am assuming it is cookie data. An example is Google preferences. I set it to display 100 results per page, not filter my results and open in a new window. Every time the computer is "accidently" powered off upon reboot Google reverts to showing 10 results per page, filtered results and opening in the same page (the default settings). This goes for every site that I have remember my login name. I am runing Win7 Build 7100 RC1I am curious if anyone else is experiencing this issue.

I seem to have a similar problem.

This may actually be standard behavior. Several web browsers, including Mozilla Firefox, used to spontaneously lose all static data when not shut down properly, and as Internet Explorer becomes increasingly indistinguishable from Windows, a crash in one could easily affect the other. Check that "Clear browsing history on exit" isn't enabled from the General tab of your Internet Options menu. If not, I think we can safely call this "normal" for the time being - though it should definitely receive developer attention between now and the final release.-Alex

I check to make sure the clear on exit was not checked. It will be interesting to see if this will carry through to the final release. Thanks,

Chiming in late, but I get the same exact behavior from IE8 on Vista, so I doubt it's a strictly Win 7 thing...string fakeEmail="jim.duncan@sharesquared.spam.com"; string realEmail=fakeEmail.Replace(".spam","")

Does anyone know how to change this behavior? It seems that Microsoft has made this the standard behavior for Internet Explorer now, if the system suffers a BSOD, power failure, or a hardware reset, anything that causes an unexpected shutdown, Internet Explorer deletes all stored cookies and other saved data. I'm seriously gettting tired of having to login so many times as I've been experiencing some hardware issues. I don't want this to be done even if it's for some reason like security.

There are programs that can backup and restore cookies. How well they work is another matter.

Internet Explorer already supports importing/exporting on its' own. See File->Import and Export (press Alt if the option is hidden). That's not really a solution though. This behavior seems to be deliberate so there has to be some way to reconfigure it. It wasn't always done like this.

It is a bug of IE8. It happens also when you have 2 tabs or more and you close IE8... when it ask you if you want to restore last session and you answer yes... boom... the cookies are gone
