Win7 Pro machine can't access network shares on other Win7 machines
I have a Lenovo W510 with 64bit Win7 Pro. It also has Symantec Endpoint Protection as the firewall/anti-virus. For about a year now the only problem I've experienced is that this machine won't connect to the other Win7 machines in my house (same network), either wired or wireless. I can connect to the Lenovo from other machines and copy files from network shares just fine. This machine in question is //rover/. If for example I try to connect to \\jupiter\ (Win7 desktop in the other room) with Symantec Endpoint running I get the following: \\JUPITER is not acce3ssible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The specified network provider name is invalid. However, if I disable Symantec Endpoint I get a Cannot connect to a shared network drive 0x80004005 If I try to access the same \\Jupiter\ with Homegroup it connects successfully but after connecting for about a minute Explorer.exe crashes. I can go from any of the other Win7 machines in the house to any other including //Rover/ as a destination and it works. Any suggestions on how to get file sharing working on this machine? Thanks

There are several condition to meet: 1. Port 445 is opened for accessibility (port 137-139 for visibility and name resolution) 2. User that try to connect to target computer resources uses credentials that are !known! in target computer. 3. Local firewall settings and Symantec protection settings should not interfere. You can use following troubleshooting tools and logs A. Local firewall and Syumantec Endpoint security log files B. Event logs on W 7 computers C. Simple netstat -an just after you initiate an attempt to connet to remore computer D. Network monitor logs (either from MS or Wireshark, both are free) Regards Milos
