Win7 Printer location tracking reliability issue
Hi We have an issue at a site with approx 600 users, 40 printers. Printer location tracking is configured and generally working. We increased the default 20 printers to 100 to accomodate some larger sites. Servers are 2008 R2. The problem is, that occasionally computers will apparently fail to detect the location correctly, and the first box in the add printer wizard, will show printers from lots of different sites. Normally they will show the printers at the local site, but sometimes it does not work. Everything is configured correctly, all the IPs are in defined subnets in AD sites. If it doesn't work, the next time the user tries at the same location, it will work, so it is just not behaving reliably. It is like it can't figure out the location quick enough, so it just shows everything. The DC's are in the datacentre, site has a 40mbps WAN link, this is not over utilised. Thanks

Hi, Thanks for posting in TechNet forum. It's very hard to determine which cause the issue since it inconsistantly failed to detect the location correctly. Therefore, I recommend you enable the printer location tracking, refer to here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc784120(WS.10).aspx Since it's a server-related issue, please also ask this question in Server forum: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowsserver Thanks for your understanding and cooperation!
