Win7 Backup has 2 problems with Network Locations
Trying to do a backup to a network location, Win7 fails to list mapped drives. Browsing for the network location or typing it (\\servername\folder or \\IPaddress\folder), produces "the specified network location cannot be used". Sometimes the error is "cannot create file when that file already exists", othertimes it questions whetehr the credentials are correct.Does anyone know how to diagnose this?

I'm getting the exact same behaviour and I haven't chosen a complete PC backup. I'm just at the stage where I"m setting up "backup" and I haven't even identified what I"m backing up... And I definitely haven't selected "Create a system image".. I've only selected "Set up backup"....Beyond that, despite having multiple xp machines config'd inthe same workgroup, all seeing each other as appropriate, all can see the W7 share, but the W7 machine can't see any of them.. (yes, of course it's in the same workgroup, same user profile, same password)... When selecting Network, the machines don't even show up.. let alone their shares.. the only way to access a network share is to right click on Network and select Map network drive and manually key in the share address.. this then opens up the remote share providing access... But.. despite having access in Windows explorer now.. I cannot shoot a back up over to it.. I guess backup means "copy" in W7?? :(Any ideas?jb

Hi,Regret the inconvenience caused. We do not show mapped network drives in our UI. But the error messages shown when you enter the share name directly are not expected. Can you let us know what is the kind of network share you are trying to backup to? Are you able tonavigate to this network location through Explorerand create files onit? Can you paste a screenshot of the error? What is the build you are running? Please give us this info so that we can look into this issue. Thanks,Sneha [MSFT]
