I'm not sure that I'm posting this in the correct forum, but here goes... 6 new Windows 7 64 bit workstations printing to either 64 bit printer shares on a 64 bit server 2008 box or directly to a network printer prints with random performance... the random nature of the performance is either perfected normal or very slowly. I can find no rhyme or reason to this behaviour. I can tell you that I can print from the Server 2008 box with expected performance, but from the win 7 workstations... sporadic performance. A simple example is a windows test page that can print nearly instantly as would be expected, or the same job may take upward of 1 minute.... it may work well for a couple of hours and then slowly for the remainder of the day. The server is also hosting a SQL server/database and some file shares... the SQL & sharing performance is great and without problem. The printers in question are Kyocera & Ricoh office printers as well as an HP laserjet 2430 with current drivers. (I can add a complete list if you would like) Again, this printing problem seems to be peculiar to the Windows 7 64bit clients whether connnected to a windows server printer share or printing to a network IP port. I can print from a Vista 32bit workstation to 32 bit drivers/shares on this same server box when slow 64bit printing is being experienced without any trouble. This one has me a bit puzzled. While I'm hacking my way through this... I thought I'd post a question to see if anyone else has experienced this condition.

How many printers do you have in the domain? Does the issue occur with all of the printers and Windows 7 clients? This kind of issues can be caused by incompatible driver. How does it work if you have correct driver for the printers? For example, I suggest you troubleshoot and test on one of the clients in order to find the root cause. You may follow the steps below to properly install the HP Laserjet 2430 on a Windows 7 client. 1. Click Start, click Control Panel and double click Devices and Printers. 2. Click Add a Printer. 3. Select "Add a local printer". 4. Select "Create a new port". Choose "Local Port" as the type of the port. 5. In the box "Enter a port name", type the address as the following format. \\<IP address of the host computer>\<The Share Name of the printer> Then click Next. 6. Select the correct driver in from the driver list. If the required driver is not present, click the “Windows Update” button. After the update finishes, search for the proper driver again. If the printing works properly after following the above steps, I suggest you add the printer with the command “rundll32.exe printui.dll” and include this command into the startup script for users. How to add printers with no user interaction in Windows If the printing jobs with HP Laserjet 2430 from all Windows 7 computers work properly, you may add other printers you would like to install on clients and see if this method can resolve the issue.
