Win7: creation of system image on dvd loops with first dvd
Hi folks, I just got my Windows 7 Home Premium Edition and the installation went through without problems. In order to get a fresh backup of this partition, I tried to use the system image creation dialog. If I use another partition or an external disk as destination it works and gives me a 12GByte image but I want to have this backup on DVDs! If I use the same procedure and choose my DVD drive (LG GSA-GH22L) it starts with a dialog to first format the disk which is nonsense since a DVD+R should be burned. The dialog also tells the name to label the disk as first disk. Then it starts doing something and it seems so save the drive C: on this disk but after a while it opens another dialog to use a new DVD with also the first disks name! Actualy the written disk is unreadable and it tries over and over again to write the first disk. I also tried a DVD-R DL with the same behavior. Is there any solution for this problem known? It is a kind of urgent for me to have a backup of this freshly installed system befor I install all my applications! Thanks in advance for your help...

Arre you trying to save a System Image to DVD? If think that works, at least that's what is stated here, Windows 7 Backup Destination under the Writeable CDs or DVDs section. I have not found any other confirmation of this but hopefully one of the MS MVPs will stop by with more/better information.Rich

Update:This time I tried using a DVD+RW and it worked, but the strange thing is, that the backup on my external USB hdisk is about 8.1Gbyte while the image on the DVD+RW took only one DVD and is about 3.61Gbyte?! A compression rate of 2.2 is faily high.Whyis it not possible to use a normal writable DVD?How can I check, if the system image on this rewritableDVD is complete?

Update2: I was brave and tried to restore from the DVD+RW and it did indeed work! The open questions that still remain: 1) Why can't I burn a system partition image to a DVD+R or DVD+R DL 2) How can I enable compression for the system image if I use another hdisk as destination?
