Win7: Can't see shares on Linux storage device
I have read through most of the threads in here looking for an answer to my issue and have tried the following recommendations with no luck: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/68ffbe2a-09a7-4e29-859c-ca1aaf75dcd1 I am using Openfiler as my NAS appliance and could access it in both Vista and XP after tweaking a policy setting, but the same (as listed in the above thread) does not work for win7. I am using Samba/CIFS on the storage box and I have read that there may be some issues with how Windows7 handles Samba that may be the issue, but have yet to find the solution if that is the case. I have no authentication (AD) to access the shares as they are configured for public access. Any recommendations would be much appreciated. PS: I have retained the policy changes from the thread listed in the link, so those are currently in place.

Hello, As this thread is titled as "can't see shares on Linux storage device", I am wondering if the symptom is the same with the thread you cited? As the cited one is about the permissions and authentications for shared folders, but the symptom of this issue is invisibility of the shares. Is this correct? As the Openfiler is a 3rd party product based on Linux platform, I highly recommend you to contact the support for Openfiler, to ensure if there is any known issues on Windows 7 access, becuase they are more familiar with the features and compabilities of the Openfiler product: http://www.openfiler.com/support http://www.openfiler.com/community/forums I am glad to assist you from Windows side. Thanks. I started in the Openfiler forums. Others have garnered access but for some reason I can not. I had this exact same problem in the past viewing shares on the network. With Vista, the issue was simply changing one configuration inside the secpol.msc screen. I found the following link for the Vista issue and it was resolved, I could now access the shares: http://www.builderau.com.au/blogs/codemonkeybusiness/viewblogpost.htm?p=339270746 It seems that regardless of whether or not authentication takes place, which in this case it does not, there should be a simple fix to this. If anyone has any ideas on how to make my shares visible on the network again I would be in your debt. I need some of the information on that storage box, and right now it is inaccessible. I read a quick blurb in these forums somewhere about how SMB is handled differently in windows 7, does anyone have any information on this and help me out? I am starting to think this might be the issue. :(
