Win7-32, AD Domain, policy requires password after 15 min, Apps lock on resume
Windows 7 or Vista (32 bit additions, business version of both)
They belong to an Directory domain (2003 servers, 2003 function level)
A policy exist that requires screen saver with password on Resume after 15 minutes
24 machines, all new machines (6 months to a year old) mostly HP- 2 Lenovo, 64bit intel porcessor, most 4 gigs ram some 2 gigs
from 5% to 30% of the time (some machines much more frequently) this happens and the primary application (and or others) lock up after putting in the windows user and password. CTRL-ALT-Delete (taskmgr) can kill apps unless windows itself locks up.
I've tried all manner of power management settings, and even told the bios not to let windows adjust power settings.
Company policy forbids users to have admin privillages on workstations so all users are "local users" the primary application that is installed has tried to recreate this issue and can't.
I'm at least looking for what steps windows 7 goes through when it stops the screen saver and allow the user to log in again.

Check autologon registry entries somewhere here HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

hmmm, sorry. Dyo mean all 24 systems have this same issue?
Do you have other AD? even just a virtual server, just to test if same behavior is observed in these systems when connected to a different AD

All 24 behave about the same, some only lock on password infrequiently, some lock 3 or 4 times a day.
It could be habits of the users, or different additional software installed, the machine with the highspeed scanner locks the most but it also has the screensaver come on the most.
I'm not sure what I'm checking for in the winlogon registry?
Thank you for your reply,
I don't believe we have another AD with privillages to all the applications the machines run, I'll check.

sorry, please disregard that registry key.
to isolate if it is a serverside issue you may create a virtual server perhaps in your laptop. Install AD role in it and then try to connect some of the systems to this test AD.CESabarre

Hi,
Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums.
Before going further, I would like to confirm if all computers encounter the issue.
On the client side, please make sure you have obtained the most latest windows updates and device drivers from the computer manufacture's download website.
Especially the display card driver.
In case this issue is due to third party software conflict, please pick out one PC as a tester, let us prepare clean boot to check the result.
To place the computer in a clean boot state, follow the steps below:
1.
Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
2.
On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
3.
Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
4.
Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
5.
Click OK.
6.
When you are prompted, click Restart.
7.
After the computer starts, try screensaver.
Clean Boot prevents software conflicts by preventing the startup items and non Microsoft services from loading. This way you can safely follow the process
of elimination to check which application is causing this behavior.
If it is on the server side, as this forum focuses on Windows 7 specific issues, this inquiry would best be posted to Windows server forum:
