By default, on a Windows 7 computer that is not part of a domain, accessing administrative shares via c$, e$, etc are no longer allowed. To access the entire C drive, you will have to create an explicit share doing so.

You must also click the Security tab to ensure the NTFS permissions are set correctly. Yes, it does seem counterintuitive, but it has been like that since way back to NT 3.51. Just setting share permissions is not enough. As a troubleshooting procedure, see if selecting the Turn off password protected sharing option helps. The admin shares are still there and working, but only in a domain environment where that was the original intended use. Disabling the admin shares for normal everyday systems closes a security loophole that is quite easy to exploit.

Hi James! The error above shows that you are trying to access the folder test , but you are showing us the settings for hdd-c . As what Darien has said in his latest post, please make sure that you have the necessary permissions set correctly under the Security tab. Sometimes using the GUI didn't work for me when it comes to sharing the root drive in W7, so you can try sharing through the command line: net share Hope this helps!Jabez Gan [MVP] - http://www.msblog.org Contributing Author for: (Sybex) MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure Configuration Study Guide: Exam 70-643
