Will there be updats to vista and xp to use the Home Group or new features in windows 7 networking
I'm pretty smart with the networking changes in windows 7 rc but I couldn't for the life of me get a simple thing like a hp printer to be seen by a home xp computer It took hours to discover why the xp computer couldn't see see the printer as windows 7 rc doesn't show up in My networks on xp I had to search for my main system then there was a password blocking it not sure if I missed a step or something it took 6hrs to figure it out way to long.Posted By Mikro

this is realy a good point. to be honest (maybe i'm not smart with networking as Mikro...) I wasn't even able to set up a straight forward network connection. the devices are seen by other os but i'm unable to connect to them. there seem to be workarounds but none of them worked for me. not only via "home zone" setup. the other folders (shared in the standard way) are not to be accessed. there was only one folder (directly after the installation) - that i in fact never shared, where I could get my hands on (App.Data\Users)... well, there seem to be work arounds for the diff. kinds of probs found in the net. but an "out of the box" version would be a bad thing to have ;) xoxo tom

I was VERY happy to find the "Homegroup connections" option. (Network and Sharing Center, Advanced sharing settings) There was a "bug" back in 2000 that would allow users with the same username/password to connect to another machine if that account existed on the destination with the same username password. This "bug" is now a selectable option. On my home network I have the same account on all PCs, now I have 0 issues with accessing shares and whatnot.

I'm glad you were able to get it working. Documentation will be updated before the release, and many compatibility problems and bugs are being worked on at the moment so it's reasonable to expect that connecting a network printer should be a little bit easier in the final Windows 7 release. -Nick
