Will my files and evrything I have on my XP computer be safe if I install Windows 7 RC on it?
I currently have Windows XP on my computer. I want to create a partition on my harddrive and install Windows 7 RC on the partition so that I have the option to operate with XP or 7. So, will my files and everything I have be safe when I create a partition and when I install Windows 7 on it?

It depends on how you create the new partition. If you have empty, unpartitioned space available on your drive, then yes you can just create a new partition and install there. If your current XP partition is using the entire drive, then youhave to shrink the XP partition in order to make space for the new partition. You will need something to shrink the XP partition. I don't know if Partition Magic (or anything else) can create a partition that 7 can use. I assume it can, since it can create a partition that Vista can use. What PM CAN'T do is resize a partition that was created with Vista (and probably 7).So, if you create another partition without destroying your existing XP partition, then yes you can install 7 and keep XP, and choose which one to boot.

Are you missing any files after partitioning?

Hi MerlynJust to clarify, BootIt NG is not free, but it does have a 30 day fully functional free trial. :)It's probably about the best partitioning/boot manager available.Hope this helps.Thank You for testing Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP
