Will a Windows 7 machine be compatible with my current Exchange network connecting XP machines?
Forgive me if I'm leaving out vital information here. I've not used anything by Microsoft in years and this is all very confusing to me.I'm looking to buy a new computer. Many of the ones I'm looking at come with Windows 7. I want to know whether these machines will be able to connect to the network in my office. It's an Exchange network. All the computers connected to it are running Windows XP.Our IT technician told me flat out that it wouldn't work, but I can't believe this to be the case. I thought that one of the marketing points of Windows 7 was its compatibility with other systems. Please let me know whether I'm completely mistaken, or what extra information I need to provide to get an answer to my question.Regards,Max

Provided that you have a Windows Server environment there should not be any problems connecting the machine to the domain and the network. But, there might be problems with application compatibility, hardware compatibility (printers, scanners etc or whatever hardware you have at the office) and those kinds of things. You mention Exchange and it only provides your client (Outlook?) with email, calender etc functionality so the only problem there might be if you are running an Office/Outlook earlier than 2003.

It should work if no issues exist. If there is any questions or issues regarding Exchange, I suggest you discuss in our Exchange forum and discuss there. Technet - Exchange Server TechCenter - Exchange Server 2010 ForumsArthur Xie - MSFT
