Will Outlook Express 6 open and operate with IE8?
I have been using Outlook Express 6 with IE8 until recently but now OE6 will not open. I get a "not responding" label in the window title and the program will not open. What can I do to look at my email files which were downloaded using OE6? Can I convert them to another email program without opening OE6? Any ideas would be appreciated.

IE8 has nothing to do with your problem. Close OE and delete Folders.dbx from the message store and see if that fixes it.Message Store Location The path to the message store will be very similar to this:C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{Long string of letters & numbers}\Microsoft\Outlook ExpressIn WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.Locate and delete Folders.dbx. A new Folders.dbx file will be created when you open OE. Reboot first.Note these possible side effects:When you re-start OE, it will build a new index of all the *.dbx files it can read, and create a new Folders.dbx. Understand though that you will lose the mail tree structure, all lists of newsgroups, and all synchronization options, and that message rules will likely need to be edited.Outlook Express questions should be asked here in the future.XP - Networking, Mail And Getting Online Forumhttp://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/xpnetwork/threadsBruce HagenMS-MVP Oct. 1, 2004 ~ Sept. 30, 2010Imperial Beach, CA
