Wi-Fi problem
Hi, Windows 7 Ultimate x 64. Realtek RTL8191 Wreless 802.11n USB2 adaptor. I cant seem to get my wireless usb adaptor working. I have installed the latest drivers from Realtek. Device manager has everything down as OK but I get no light @ the adaptor & no life, It finds no networks. When I try to add new device I get either a message saying a there may be a problem with the driver for the device or other times one saying I need to turn on ipv6 which when I go to the device properties this box is checked. The adaptor does work as I have tried it on a vista x 32 PC.

You have a hardware problem! If the adapter does not work in Vista, then there is nothing Windows 7 can do to fix the problem! You need to contact the manufacturer of your computer! Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. The adaptor does work in Vista and the PC is a self build, it also works in my mates HP touch screen PC with Win 7 x 64 so I can only think that it is a configuration problem but I just cant find out what.

Aplogize. I misread your post before and I though you said it did not work in Vista. Are you sure the Realtek driver is 64-bit? For other devices Realtek states 32/64 bit, but for you hardware they don't list both. There are no RTL8191 drivers in the Windows Update Catalog: http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/home.aspx You can check in the Windows 7 Compatibility Center http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Browse.aspx?type=Hardware&category=Networking&subcategory=Wireless%20Network%20Cards You will need the Make, Model, and Series of your device. Just because the device worked in Vista is no guarantee it is Windows 7 compatible. The compatibility is solely the responsibility of the manufacturer/vendor to supply the drivers if they desire to. So, it is up to you to find out if the device is Windows 7 compatible and if there are appropriate Windows 7 drivers published for it. The best place to start is the manufacturer's website of the device! I have also been trying with a Netgear WG111v3 802.11b/g 54Mbps Wireless Network Adapter but I have the same problem, this adaptor gets used all the time in my daughters Win 7 x32 PC upstairs. I tried getting help from netgear but they gave up @ the first hurdle (pretty lame I thought ). I have successfuly updated the driver for both devices from device manager by doing an online search, It seemed to update fine. As I say everything within the setup seems as it should be but if you try to add network device windows doesnt see either of them.

Try power down of the router for 2 minutes as well as all client machines. The boot the router back up and then after 20 seconds start the PCs If that does not work there may be some problem with the router or the NICs that are swerving from the standards My MVP is for the Windows Desktop Experience, i.e. Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 IT Remote Assistance is available for a fee. The router is working fine, as no other PCs in the house are experiecing problems. The problem must be within this machine. It seems as if evrything is set to work fine & should be. If I plun the adaptors into any USB port they get found @ installed as what they are, but trouble shooter cant seem to accept them @ add net device cant find them even though Windows does when I first plug them in.

NIC is network interface card. Curious why the wireless is not working, my netbook has built-in wireless and wired, both work individually and in tandem My MVP is for the Windows Desktop Experience, i.e. Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 IT Remote Assistance is available for a fee. Hi, It sound like your computer did not work properly with the network adapter; according to your description, the network adapters can work with Windows Vista, but get a problem on your Windows 7 computer, therefore, I suspect this should be a hardware compatibility issue and I would suggest you update your BIOS and chipset driver for test.
