Wi-Fi in Windows Server 2008 R2
Hi Guys, This is probably not the right forum to post my question in, but I can't find the appropriate forum/category in the Windows Server section. Moderators, please feel free to move my question to the appropriate section - my apologies for posting it here. I hope there's someone out there that can advise on my problem. About two months ago I replaced my Windows 7 with Windows Server 2008 R2 and my computer is just working smoothly! However, I am struggling majorly with the Wi-Fi system in Windows Server. I have installed the Wireless LAN Service via the Server Manager and also installed the hardware drivers as received from my computer manufacturer. Since my Bluetooth and Wi-Fi adapter works together, both these services are switched on when I press the wireless button on my PC. Bluetooth works fine however, the wi-fi is not working as it should. I configured the router for use via wi-fi and entered all the required information into Windows for connecting to the wireless network. I then restarted my computer for some reason and now it just doesn't want to connect to the wireless network. Windows is configured to automatically connect to this wireless connection as soon as it is in range, but it doesn't. When I manually click on the icon in the taskbar, and select Connect, the system returns 'Windows is unable to connect to Billion'. I tried diagnosing with Windows but the only solution presented is to restart the router (funny, my BlackBerry can detect the Wi-Fi and connect automatically, so why not Windows?). I then switched the wireless card off, back on again and tried to connect. Nothing. So I kept on switching the card off and on for a number of times but Windows cannot connect to the network. I then switched the card back on, left it for 30 minutes while I was having a smoke and doing some other chores, came back, clicked on 'Connect' and it still didn't want to connect. Being completely fed up by this time, I tried connecting once more and then all of a sudden, the system connected. Now, there's no configuration problems on the router side. My BlackBerry, iPhone and HTC Android picks up the Wi-Fi and automatically connects. So this must be a problem on my computer side. Any advice?

Hi Mohamed, I managed to fix the problem: My Wi-Fi router needed a firmware upgrade and now my computer is able to connect to and automatically connect to the wi-fi network after a system restart or shutdown. Not quite sure why this was the problem, but all seems to be fixed now. Thank you for the two articles, it is much appreciated!
