Why won't my computer turn off?
I have a PC with windows XP professional and yesterday I got an error message in MS Paint saying that my RAM was low and I needed to close some other windows before continuing my work in paint. So I decided that I would just shut my computer down for a while since it's always on but when I tried to shut it off the proper way it wouldn't so I attempted the proper way 3 more times and still nothing. I then decided to try to restart instead but it won't even restart. I tried defragmenting and it still won't shut down. I'm too afraid to hold the power button because knowing my luck it won't turn back on again.I am currently running a disk cleanup, but judging by the progress bar I won't know if that helped for a looooong time.Any idea what's wrong?

Press the power button and wait for 8 seconds. XP is very resistant to failure under this situationWhat exactly happens when you try to shut down" Any error messages? Have you checked the Event Logs fro any errors? If you find any, usehttp://eventid.net to investigate.
