Why was $49. pre-order of Windows 7 cancelled early for Beta and RC testers?
In early July you announced an offer to provide a pre-order copy of Windows 7 to Beta and RC testers for $49. that was toexpire August 1, 2009. Now I have heard it expired July 11. What happened, and why was this changed to affect so manytesters that wanted to get this offer.??

Same question. Please bring back the offer for RC users until August 1, 2009.

I thought the idea was to reward those that sign off on their stable system in order to check out and report errors so they can be fixed before final release. I can understand that the Amazon and other vendors be limited to how many discount copies, thats nothing more than a promotion. But why the early cutoff for us Beta Testers? I was actually about to preorder today, when I got a shock. It would be nice to get a response from Microsoft on this.

I agree, there should be an extension.

You should look on resellers' and online shops' offers, too, and regularly. I was very surprised - as the official presales offers in Japan and Europe were sold out in a few minutes or hours, depending from the country - seeing today that there are shops selling Windows 7 Home Premium preorders now for $/45... That changes from one day to another, so do a little search for it.Mobile AMD64 3000+, VIA Apollo K8T800 chipset, 1 G RAM, ATIRadeonMobility 9700, 20x DVDRW, C:XPSP3 (55G),D:WIN7 (25G),F:DATA (250G)

Richard - Nothing changed. You may have gotten a few things mixed up. 1.) It was actually announced on June 25th. The program went from June 26th to July 11th. You can read ZDNet's report here.2.) The deal wasn't limited to beta/RC testers - it was actually open to anyone and everyone.3.) The BETA version, build 7000, is set to expire on August 1st, 2009. This has nothing to do with the preorder special.

HiDisclaimer: The following informationis based on my own personal research and is freely available on the internet. When any company, services a worlwidecustomer base, there are more issues involved than simply making an offer. There are issues such as Trade Agreements, Treaties, Import/Export Restrictions, taxes and other fees, and many, manymore regulatory issues. There are also issues about privacy. Because of these issues, many countries do not allow certain types of marketing promotions without heavy restrictions being imposed, which makes these offers almost impossible to manage in those countries. As far as identifying the legitimate publicbeta testers, Most of the feedback and bug reporting, was submitted anonymously. Unless a user opted in to one of the email or newsletter offerings, there was no way to determine who the legitimate testers were since, because of personal privacy concerns,no personally identifiable information from these users is collected. When you add to this that there has been well over 10 Million downloads of the Beta and RC builds just from the official servers, you can start to see the scope of this problem. This number does not include all of the many 'leaked' builds that were available on torrents.Regards,Thank You for testing Windows Ronnie Vernon MVP

The 45 euro offer was still active in the UK from Tesco online store and PC World on JULY 20th 2009. I know I placed an order for Windows 7 Premium home full version 32 and 64bit! And it was accepted!. I'm not sure why one commenter above says the Microsofr promotion ended on July 11th 2009?? It was still active on July 20th 2009 on Tesco UK online shop. I got the email from Microsoft Windows 7 RC account testers on Monday 20th July 2009 and was able to go to the Microsoft UK website then from their to one of the online retailers supporting the Microsoft offer and complete the order! Some of the online sellers like PC World UK are a real pain to setup an account and to make an order on but I managed to complete an order for Windows 7 Home Premium Full Version to be delivered October 20th 2009 on the Tesco's online store. I just checked again today at 02.50 at Tesco online UK and the 45 euro offer has gone, the Windows 7 primium EU price now is 79.97. I think Microsoft should extend the offer for people who thought Microsoft would honour their original advertised end date of August 2009.

The deal ran from June 26 to July 11 in the US. Apparently the European discount began later.Where was this "original advertised end data" advertized? I don't recall seeing it. The US offer was actually a "while quantities last" offer, which meant that Microsoft could have limited the number of copies available and cut it off prior to July 11. (I believe that they did not do that.)

The MS Store promo page has been changed since, but I think the exact wording was"Offer good from June 26, 2009, until July 11, 2009, or while supplies last".You'll find a quotation of it here: License question

The "official" Beta Testers were invited or accepted after applying (to or by MS). There were, also, 'general public' exploring the Beta & RC. But, MS knew/knows who the Beta Testers were/are. BT's had feedback means & opps for other forms of communication & interaction w/ the Windows Build Team that was not the case for the 'general public' looking @ Builds 7000 & 7100. And BTs worked in Microsoft Connect in a 2-way street w/ the Win7 Build Team... communcated through there & fetched downloads for Win7 Team offered tasks there. BTs performed investigative tasks & then reported back to the Team; this, also, the 'general public' using Win7 Beta & or RC did not do.Thanks,Drew MS Partner Pres. Computer Issues

I wonder what exactly while supplies last means. I mean, the actual boxes (starting June 26 in USA) don't exist yet, do they?

egads - I did see an article somewhere where they were showing off the boxes they will be shipping them in come October... They're sort of a cross between a standard DVD case and the Vista case.. It's got the general shape of the Vista case (rounded on the top right corner), but it's like a DVD case in the way that it opens. It looks to be made of a "frosted" clear plastic. They also seem to feature a DVD case like paper insert with the product label. So I'd say by now, the designs are definitely in, they're likely already in production.Check 'em out here.
