Why this will be the best Windows yet
Well, this one almost belongs to the sticky: Have comments about Win7 beta, but I think it deserves a bit more recognition. I believe there is one prevailing reason why this is to be the best Windows yet: MS finally decided to listen to users / enthusiasts and do something about what they (we) are shouting. These forums are a fine example. In general, this new approach seems to be working great, but there are a few problems yet to be addressed. It seems that the funding of this isn't exactly enormous. There are relatively few MS employees here. Here's a few problems that arise from this fact: 1. There isn't an official response to some feature requests / bug reports. I have seen some posts like "This has been forwarded to dev team", but certain topics remain unanswered. I find the threads about Visual Studio / MS SQL server install particulary interesting since those are both MS products, not to even mention that both are also development tools. Failing to install those products also means that development for Win7 (in Win7) is impossible at this time. 2. I hear that some complaints / feature requests have been answered, but the forum thread on the particular subject contains no official post about such facts. An example might be Quick Launch bar, if the leaked screenshots of the next public build are to be believed. 3. There are certain features of the OS that are very important. What's worse, some people want them to behave like this and others want them like that. In some cases those features have been present in previous versions of Windows OS and behaved in some completely different manner. Why oh why can't MS just run a poll and the post the decision about what ways will be implemented and how the user will be able to change it's behaviour? 4. Despite all the effort from MS this still feels more like a one-way communication rather than a dialog. 5. There's certainly more, but I just doesn't slip into mind right now :) Keep up the good work
