Why isn't there just 1 Windows 7 Upgrade Version????????
Why don't yall just release 1 windows 7 upgrade version that detechs what current OS you have and upgrade you to the corrosponding version? For example, lets say someone hasVista Home Premium or XP Home Edition. The Windows 7 Upgrade would detech that, and upgrade you to 7 Home Premium. If the person had XP Pro or Vista Business, it would detech that and upgrade you to 7 Professional. And so on.All the Windows 7 versions can fit on the same DVD so I don't see why not. And iF a person wants to go from XP home to 7 Ultimate they can just use Windows Anytime Upgrade to get them that. There is no need to sell different Windows 7 upgrades. It just makes upgrading even more complicated. Look at my situation for instance, I have Windows Vista Ultimate(the RETAIL version!) and I want to upgrade to 7. If I want to upgrade to Windows 7 ultimate, it'll cost me $129.99 for Home Premium. But guess what? The tight-wand who bought Windows Vista Home Basic gets charged the exact same amount to upgrade to windows 7 Home Premiumas I do!!! When my version is worth over $150 more than his! Your essentially just screwing all your loyal customers and treating them like they never paid more for Vista Business or Ultimate in the first place. If I want to keep my Vista Ultimate features, I now have to rebuy them again for $229 or lose them in Windows 7 Home Premium! Please Microsoft, fix this problem. I really don't want to pay for the same features TWICE. Thanks for hearing me out,-Beaver_2

<Why don't yall just release 1 windows 7 upgrade version that detechs what current OS you have and upgrade you to the corrosponding version?...>Pricing. Simple as that. How's the cash register going to know what version (level) you have installed at home? ;)The register doesn't know that you have, say, XP Professional, or Vista Home Basic, et, al.....And, FWIW, the various versions (Home Premium, Professional) actually are (will be) the same media - Vista is (was) the same way. What varies is (will be) the keys attached to them.Put another way:- all Upgrade versions consist of one of 2 discs (32- or 64-bit.)- all Retail versions will consist of a 2-disc set (32- and 64-bit.)- all OEM System Builder versions consist of one of 2 discs (32- or 64-bit.)Within the above three groups, the product key is what differentiates what actually gets installed. As for your current OS:Yes, you bought Ultimate. However, unless you need the features that are included in Win7 Ultimate that aren't present in Win7 Professional (MUI support, BitLocker, Unix Subsystem support, as well as several Server 2008 Domain-specific features (BranchCache, Applocker, etc.), Professional would probably be a good fit for you.Just a thought....HTH (and, my $0.02, as well),Chris[If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message.
