Why isn't default printer part of location settings?
One of my biggest annoyances with the new location sensing stuff is thatas part of setting up networking defaults for a locaiton you don't allow the user to set a different default printer for each location. There were any number of apps for XP that handled setting up location based setting and ALL of them included setting a different default printer for each location. Is the lack of this some itnernal Microsoft political thing? You default printer at work and at home are different.Everyone has this issue. It is just plain silly notto address this. One other point: I'd really like the ability to run a script as part of changing locations.

Look up "Manage default printer" in "Help and Support". Under "Automatically switch default printers between home, work, or school" it shows how to set this up.Paul

After that you can see the pages. But to set the option about the printing, you must open the Device and Printer page ofthe control panel, click on one of the printers, then the toolbar under the address will change showing the Manage Default Printers button. From the window that will then open, you can set it up so that it will only use the printers that you wnat to on that network. And that location settings are designed more for GPS devices. : )Hope this helps!

OK, I used this and switched locations and the new default printer is set. However, the way this funciton works is a demonstration of what is wrong at MS. I think of a location as including all aspects, including the default printer. I might also want to include drive mappings and more. MS has the printer/devices group managing this function instead of including it as part of the net location services. They need to deliver funciton as users think of it, not based on their organization structure.
