Why is file sharing broken?
I am lost on this issue. I have two vista machines on a network, going \\computername\ in XP would pompt me to login to the box. Vista just smacks me down telling me I am not allowed to login. In the "Network and Sharing Center" (ugh) I have on both: Network Discovery ON File sharing ON Public foldersharing ON Password Protected Sharing ON Media Sharing ON. From Computer A I am able to get on to Computer B From Computer B I get "Login failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer". I never got a prompt, but of course if I add a user to computer A with computer Bs username I get a prompt, for some reason Computer A to Computer B just worked though. This is stupid, over protective, and a pain in the rump. How do I just get a logon pompt? Dont deny me flat out, I have the firewall open, I turned on file sharing, I am accepting some risk here. How do I make this work like it did before vista?

Hi Ryan. Try turning off Password Protected Sharing. It expects you to have matching usernames and passwords on both machines. Thanks, Gloria

Hi, Please also check if the user account that you use to access the share folder is added in the security policy Deny access to this computer from the network on the other computer (Computer B). To check this policy, follow these steps: On Computer B, click Start, type secpol.msc in the Start Search box and press Enter. Expand Local Policies > User Right Assignment, and then you will see the policy Deny access to this computer from the network in the right panel.
