Why does sidebar.exe from the W7 RC continually recreate the color space profile?
Whenever I have the sidebar running, if I pop open the Sysinternals Process Monitor, I keep seeing the following: 9:16:21.0144432 AM sidebar.exe 2664 CreateFile C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color\sRGB Color Space Profile.icm SUCCESS Desired Access: Generic Read, Disposition: Open, Options: Synchronous IO Non-Alert, Non-Directory File, Random Access, Attributes: n/a, ShareMode: Read, AllocationSize: n/a, OpenResult: Opened 9:16:21.0146295 AM sidebar.exe 2664 QueryStandardInformationFile C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color\sRGB Color Space Profile.icm SUCCESS AllocationSize: 4,096, EndOfFile: 3,144, NumberOfLinks: 2, DeletePending: False, Directory: False 9:16:21.0146634 AM sidebar.exe 2664 CreateFileMapping C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color\sRGB Color Space Profile.icm FILE LOCKED WITH ONLY READERS SyncType: SyncTypeCreateSection, PageProtection: PAGE_READONLY 9:16:21.0146860 AM sidebar.exe 2664 QueryStandardInformationFile C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color\sRGB Color Space Profile.icm SUCCESS AllocationSize: 4,096, EndOfFile: 3,144, NumberOfLinks: 2, DeletePending: False, Directory: False 9:16:21.0147301 AM sidebar.exe 2664 CreateFileMapping C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color\sRGB Color Space Profile.icm SUCCESS SyncType: SyncTypeOther 9:16:21.0148805 AM sidebar.exe 2664 CloseFile C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color\sRGB Color Space Profile.icm SUCCESS It seems to occur four consecutive times every second I have sidebar.exe running.

I have the same problem, but I am convinced it is certain gadgets and not sidebar.exe By unloading all the gadgets and adding them back in one at a time I was able to discover the offending gadgets on my machine were the "Large Notes" from xenosium.com and the "System Information Gadget" by Tibor Kapas. By removing these the gadgets the calls stopped. A real shame because the system information gadget was a useful tool. Hope that helps. -Michael
