Why does my Laptop connect to a WAP with a lower signal and a lower speed?
Why does my Laptop connect to a WAP with a lower signal and a lower speed? I have a BTHOMEHUB 2.0 Type A on channel 1 and a Belkin F5D7633 on channel 11.
When I connect to the network (sat next to the homehub) it connects to the belkin. The homehub has a stronger signal and a speed of 130mbps compared to 54mbps.
I know this is not a security issue because I have switched the Belkin off and the Laptop Connects to the homehub.
Thanks

Do you mean the wireless channel? I have tried the channels the opposite way round but they still haven't worked. If I do 1 and 6 though, nothing connects to the Belkin.

Because you gave the Belkin network the higher priority to connect to.
You can change the priority of connections to WLANs by changing the
order of the WLANs on the WLAN config page.

No in the WLAN Administration (or whatever the correct English wording
is for this part of the Network and Sharing Center) you define, which
Networks you allow the Computer to automatically connect to, and the
order in which they are listed defines their priority for opening a
connection.

There is only 1 network. They are both named the same, have the same security and the same password. The computers should just connect to whichever is the strongest signal, but they don't they just connect to the belkin.

When you're using the Belkin router, have you try changing the channel from 11 to 1? Try switching channel & see how it goes

I don't think that's settable in the client as long as both are
reachable it probably depends on the response time. So most likely the
Belkin is quicker responding to connection requests than your other AP.
And connections are started as soon as a preset WLAN is reachable - the
client does not enumerate all accessible WLANs and then chooses the
best one. If it starts it's enumeration with Channel 1 of course the AP
communicating via Channel 1 will always win.

I have already tried switching channels. Is there anything else I can do?
When I turn off the belkin the laptop instantly switches to the homehub

I have already tried switching channels. Is there anything else I can do? It must be caused by the response times which I don't think are possible to change.
Thanks
