Why does does Bluetooth Personal Area Network number increment
Vista SP2 HP Paviion DV6353us I have been playing around with some cheap USB thumbnail Bluetooth transceivers (they show up in Device Manager as CSR Bluetooth radio) and having limited success getting my laptop to handshake with a Microsoft Notebook Bluetooth Mouse 5000. (Not the topic of this thread, but any help to make this more robust would be welcome). Every time I remove and re-install the radio, it seems that both the Bluetooth Personal Area Network number and the Bluetooth RFCOMM Protocol TDI number increment. I am up to #9. Why are they incrementing and what effect will this have if any on my laptop ?

Hi, First, you may refer to the following links to troubleshoot the communication issue: Connect a Bluetooth device that does not have or require a transceiver Troubleshoot problems with Bluetooth enabled devices Regarding the number increment, when you remove and reinstall the Bluetooth radio, it will consider as a new Bluetooth Personal Area Network and Bluetooth RFCOMM Protocol TDI added. Therefore, the number will increase. When you install a supported Bluetooth adapter, the adapter becomes active together with the following Microsoft components: · Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator This component enumerates Bluetooth devices and capabilities. · Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) This driver supports Personal Area Network (PAN) connections between devices. · Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol Transport Driver Interface [TDI]) This component supports dial-up networking (DUN). It also supports other types of connections between devices. · Bluetooth Support Service (BthServ) This service maintains and updates device pairing information. It also performs other functions that are related to Bluetooth features. These components are available in Device Manager after you install a Bluetooth adapter. Other drivers and components are also installed. Hi, Is there a way to set or allocate the number that the bluetooth mic increments to? I am using Dragon Naturally speaking with a bluetooth microphone. The software loads a profile and says "I am attached to 51 - bluetooth microphone." Then I work, then I turn off the mic. When I turn it on again the mic is now called 52 - bluetooth microphone. The software goes "HELP! I can't find 51 - bluetooth microphone!" And tries to commit suicide. I then have to set up another profile for 52 - bt microphone, which only works until I turn it off again. Then I have to repeat for 53 - etc etc. (I am up to 60something after a few months, and it is really irritating!) so - Is it possible to rather tell Bluetooth to just call its microphones ONE thing, instead of changing the name each time? Alternatively, can you tell the software to go Shakespearean and say: "a mic is a mic, by any other name."
