Why does copying/moving files not count as activity for energy saving settings?
If you copy/move large amounts of data either locally or remotely via LAN it can happen that the Sleep mode of the computer kicks in. For some strange reason a copy/move operation does not count as activity like pressing a key on the keyboard or moving the mouse does. Why is that and is there a setting somewhere which would make copying/moving large amounts of files over the LAN an "activity" so that Sleep mode will not be activated during the process?

Hi, The computer should only go to sleep under 2 conditions: 1) The user has selected the computer to sleep when the power button is pressed and someone presses the power button. 2) The computer is idle for a period of time set in the power plan settings. I tested the behavior on two Windows Vista computers. The computers were set to sleep after 1 minute. When copying files, the computers would not go to sleep, however 1 minute after I stopped copying files and left the machines, they went to sleep mode. It is important to remember power options are controlled by the BIOS. Not all BIOS support the new power options available in Windows Vista. In this case, I suggest updating the BIOS to check the result. If the issue persists, please let me know the model of the computer, it is probably a problem with the BIOS design. Hope this helps.
