Why does Windows 7 report my hard drive as being 100% full when it is only 25% full (incl. hidden files)?
I have a primary 80GB HDD which is about has about 25GB of files on it. This includes hidden files (or at least all the hidden files it chooses to show).Windows is reporting the disk is 100 percent full, and when I select the properties for the HDD it shows as being 100 percent full. Why is this?Could it be due to error reporting or maybe a virtual memory error? 50gb is a lot of disk space to lose.I have been running windows 7 since Sunday. Note that the only application I have been running has been Windows Media Center for Live TV. Also of note is that my TV recordings are set to record to secondary 500GB Drive.Any help or advice appreciated

Have you tried to run the Disk Cleanup, or Disk Defragmenter? Also does the Disk Management system (just search for it in the start bar) also say that it is full?

I have run Disk Cleanup, however it only shows about 2-3GB of files to be cleaned up, so still a shortfall of 50GB.I was running Disk defragmenter before i had to leave for work. So I will see the results of that in about 4 hours.I wlll look at Disk Management.Any other advice welcome

I have re-run Disk Cleanup and it has resolved my issue.I am still puzzled as to what is creating these unviewable files though.

Where in Windows do you see this?In Explorer what does it show?In Disk Management, what does it show? What is the partition size?If you drop to a Command Prompt and do a DIR, what does it show as free space? What does the properties of the Drive show (General Tab) show?Joe

More then likely it's shadow copies, using this space. There is an option somewhere (don't know off the top of my head) but you should be able to keep this from happening with properly set options.

This appears to be a problem for a number of users in New Zealand:I found this the other day too. Is your error somethin like this? WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER IN-BAND GUIDE LOADER - STOPPED WORKINGDescriptionStopped workingFaulting Application Path: C:\Windows\ehome\mcGlidHost.exeProblem signatureProblem Event Name: CLR20r3Problem Signature 01: mcglidhost.exeProblem Signature 02: 6.1.7000.0Problem Signature 03: 49432923Problem Signature 04: mcstoreProblem Signature 05: 6.1.0.0Problem Signature 06: 49433d6dProblem Signature 07: 549Problem Signature 08: 53Problem Signature 09: System.InvalidOperationExceptionOS Version: 6.1.7000.2.0.0.256.1Locale ID: 2057Extra information about the problemBucket ID: 416929834I have 7000 installed on a 25GB partition and each error takes up about 25MB on the disc so my drive was being filled very quickly. Additionally Window Error Reporting was naturally trying to send each error back to Microsoft so was completely clogging my network and using my all my bandwidth. You can at least change the WER settings to stop it sending errors for this application to fix that side of it but the files will still be being saved and filling the drive. The app creating the error is mcGlidHost.exe and has something to do with the EPG data over the air. When watching live tv one error is getting created every minute or two for me. I should point out that I have DVB-T (freeview and SKY via DVBSBridge) as well as DVB-S. I have merged all three sources in the guide for each channel and set it up so it uses the DVB-S data as the EPG source but DVB-T tuners are the preferred "watch" tuners. I think the error is possibly caused by some sort of clash between the different EPG sources ie EIT and MHEG now/next. I have since reinstalled 7000 in the hope of doing soem more testing, maybe setting it up differently (and possibly disabling inband for MHEG if I can) but haven't had time yet. (I've gone back to VMC for now as it is my main mediacenter pc and used most of the day)There is another discussion at http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=714708&pid=590414250&st=15&#entry590414250 which indicates it may be caused by our good old MHEG5 which I think is also used in the UK? If I turn on MHEG5 while in the 7MC settings the error rate goes from 1 every couple of minutes to 4 or 5 a minute! If you watch the folder where the WER queued errors are kept it can be quite scary. (NB I do have kb961367 installed)Any suggestions?

I have a similar problem that nothing seems to help with more than temporarily. Main partition has ~100Gb of space, about 30Gb is utilized. HD will report 65Gb free; when you recheck it, it loses about 0.1Gb every few seconds, until after a few hours the HD reports as full. Disk cleanup and defragmenter, etc, show short-termed results at best. Scanned with multiple malware scanners, all clean. I thought maybe it was some software or driver conflict, removed nearly everything, never more than transient positive effect. Have nearly identical system with NONE of the same problems. The only thing that has longer lasting positive effect is rebooting, at which the HD reverts to reporting ~65Gb free .... then it begins its long downhill slide to being full. This was a clean installation. Originally had swap file on D drive (more space there), tried reverting to letting Windows manage swap files on both drives, no different effect. Anyone have any ideas?
