Why does Windows 7 ignore 'Always wait for network'?
We're having an issue whereby domain joined W7 machines are not processing policy at startup properly much like it is noted here: kb2421599 We have always wait for network enabled and yet machines get to CAD very quickly, like they ignore policy processing. Setting the GP processing timeout value in that article to 60secs appears to fix it. Why then does Windows 7 ignore 'Always wait for network' as surely that is what it is for?

Hi, I would like to verify where you configured "wait for network" policy. On local group policy or domain group policy? The policy should be configured in local computer. You can check the corresponding key: HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System!GpNetworkStartTimeoutPolicyValue However, if neither manual or group policy setting has been defined then the value is picked from the following registry location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy\History Since there is no time out period defined, the system now uses its own algorithm to calculate and arrive at an Average time out period and this value is stored in the above registry location. This could vary system to system and depends on various factors like previous login attempts. 1.The basic schema of group policy execution is LSDOU (local > site > domain > organization unit.) 2. What is the resulting policy? 3. If you change policy, force it (gpupdate /force) Regards Milos
