Why does Win 7 RC taskbar go missing after screen sleep?
Windows 7 RC's taskbar goes missing after screen goes into sleep mode. I can log off and log back on and the taskbar is back. Using Nvida 9800 GTX with latest WIn 7 RC Beta drivers.

bearcat - That is likely another symptom of the bug(s) associated with Win 7 RC and sleep.

Not sure if this is related, but Hibernation is also unworkable. Hybrid is OFF, but when Hibernation is launched the unit tries to shutdown to that state, but then immediately reboots to a login. Checked the "Event Viewer" for a clue to the issues and get flagged by a "USB" message. 16 of them. Probably the hub and their associate controllers etc. Vista Ultimate would not hibernate ether.

bearcat - That could be either a driver issue or some other hardware issue if Vista has issues sleep/hibernation. That entire area is something that does need some work - hopefully before RTM.

Try running powercfg -energy from a command prompt (obviously as an administrator) and see whaterrors it identifies. That might give a bit more information with respect to what is going on....Stephen

My previous reply sited 16 flags from running "powercfg -energy". I re-ran it again and now I get 19 flags. 99% having to do with USB issues. Since its across the board it seem anything USB related is a trigger. If USB still gets flagged then there is a BUG in that area.

Since its across the board it seem anything USB related is a trigger. If I run powercfg -energy, I get errors listed in the html file rather than just warnings. They all revolve around USB hub and root issues but no longer affect sleep mode since I created a customized power plan merging high performance and power saver. I found there is an error somewhere in the hidden coding of the balanced plan that allows devices to wake my laptop even when everything is set to not wake it.Not your problem, but a bit of a demonstration that power managementdoes have some issues.Given you mention the ultimate red flag word for me regarding compatibility issues in Vista and Windows 7 - Nvidia - I am always inclined to bet the source of the problem is there. If memory serves me, Nvidia drivers did affect both sleepand hibernate in some Vista systems.BTW, you did not mention that you ran powercfg -energy in your original post. You said you looked at Event Viewer and that is not the same thing. I wouldn't have bothered to suggest you run it if you had mentioned powercfg -energy....Stephen

Sorry about confusion, I did review the Event Viewer, but after running powercfg -energy and reviewing the report the second time I had 19 error "plus" the warnings. Since the errors take up a lot of space I only posted the warnings and noted the USB Flags in the report. I have modified my power settings profiles to no affect.
