Why cursor randomly jumps around while typing?
hp dm1 laptop typing moves the cursor... it seems like it is trying to suggest words. It sometimes move the cursor to different part of the line. I have this problem when typing normal speed (30 to 60 wpm). If I slow type, no problems. help?! Just bought laptop a few days ago; updated with win7 sp1 no 3rd party sw. help?

I remember that was the same thing I told a friend of mine (who has an Acer notebook). But this was not the reason behind the issue. In fact, it was due to a setting in the Alps touchpad software that needed to be changed. egman EDIT: Sorry, I do not know the details right now. But if the Alps software can be installed, you might find the corresponding setting... Just trying to help.

Note that I didn't say it was the issue. I said it "very likely" was this issue. Yes, there are other things that can make it happen, but I'd still bet on its being accidentally touching the touchpad, especially since it only happens if he types rapidly. Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP

Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP We are all guessing here what the reason is... I never said you said it *was* the issue. From the experience with my friend I still bet it is a software caused issue. Be aware that I told her so many times she must have touched that touchpad and she insisted that she did NOT and that she was careful etc. In the end, I found that setting in the Alps configuration software and the problem has never appeared again! But hey, we need more info from artlam... Regards, egman

No... problem was not touching the touchpad. I configured touchpad on taskbar to be animated and I can see no actions on tuoch pad. I downloaded the latest touchpad update driver from HP today; it seems to work much better. I still see skips of cursor, where it randomly places itself elsewhere and selects some text or interpreting my keystrokes to do a command. It is a lot less frequent after the update. Still a problem, but only rarely now. I can live with it, but hope it can be fixed.

I now remember what I did to solve the issue (having that notebook here right now): Install the latest Alps software. And find a setting which reads like: "hide pointer while typing" (not sure if this is what it is called in an English version of Windows...) This got rid of the problem completely. This had nothing to do with accidentally touching the touchpad. There are more settings to try in addition. Regards, egman
