I have to hand it to you. Bringing the ability to mount .vhd files from virtual server into 7 was a great idea. Creating an ISO burning app was also a great idea. What I can't understand is why we still have to turn to flaky third party programs to mount an ISO. If I could mount an ISO through Disk Management as well I would be in heaven.

Would be but I suspect they avoid this becuase of issues with folks who sell stuff with Macrovision protection. I *hate* the fact they include this without even giving me a warning or option to remove. There are many 3rd party solutions like Daemon Tools, Alcholo, etc. to mount ISOs.

My latest ISO i just used 7-Zip (which works but doesnt have context menus in 7) to extract the ISO and install it from file. No really ideal. I have seen the Microsoft tool before, but it still isn't quite like integration. Especially in this day in age when we virtualize everything, ISO mount would be a really nice touch.As for the Macrovision stuff, I don't think their solution has to bypass that, if you try and mount a copy protected file it should just say no. Seriously though, who has copy protected ISOs? This would be in the Disk Management area anyway so it's not like an end user would really know about it. Also this would mean that we don't always have to have a virtual drive sitting there confusing end users like all the other third party apps implement. The drive letter would just get assigned to the ISO as needed, just like it does with VHD files.

Adelino,I tried the virtual cd control panel from MS on my Windows 7 machine and couldn't get it to work. I found numerous articles explaining problems with Vista with a proposed soution of running as administrator and in XP compatability mode - even then you can only get it to read from the CD when running CMD.exe also as an admin. Even with those hoops, I got it to work once on windows 7. This bites.I downloaded Virtual Clone Drive from slysoft and it worked great. Not sure about the site, but my windows 7 machine is just for testing.It's time for microsoft to include this in the OS. Heck, Virtual PC wll mount an iso for a host... why can't the native OS???

I have used Virtual Clone Drive as well, and it seems to work pretty good, I do have to close my drive info gadget before I run it though, or else my gadgets crash (Probably just specific to that gadget {Sushi Drive Info}). I must agree though, now that Windows 7 lets us burn ISO's, the ability to Mount them would be awesome.

I've just tried the above and it doesn't work with Windows 7. I think that the name of the .exe is a clue "WinXp(etc).exe"
