Why can't Win 7 network with XP PC.s? Along with other gripes, this is enough to keep me at XP forever! I never went to Vista.

cact - You should be able to connect, but there are some caveats.. Like you can't have a blank password. XP (and Vista) boxes won't be able to connect via a home group, but you should still be able to connect to one.

If you never went to Vista, you are probably not aware of the "Network Map". XP machines do not appear on the network because they do not have the Link-Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder as Vista/Win 7 do.Try Looking at this KB: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/922120and hopefully it should sort out your woes.CheersDave

And yet, I can see the shared drives on my wife's XP machine with both 32bit and 64bit versions of 7... I don't have to do anything, they show up in the list on their own.

cact23-Do you still have Windows 7 in a HomeGroup? Unless you tweak Group Policy prior to connecting to a network for the first time Windows 7will automatically stick you in a HomeGroup. If youare still in HomeGroupthen only other Windows 7 and/or Vista(if Vista supports HomeGroups)systems will see each other on a network. If you want Windows 7 to be able to see other (XP, or others...)systems on a network then you need to take Windows 7 out of the HomeGroup environment.
