Why are various SysTray icons missing?
After booting, I should have 12 hidden icons in the SysTray, but I've seen as few as 8. I've checked Task Manager/Processes and the programs for the missing icons are all running. I have tracked this problem for awhile and can see no pattern as to which icons are not in the SysTray. If I logooff, then logon again as the same user, things are OK . . . but this is not a satisfactory solution! Please note that this is not a question of hiding or showing icons or notifications (customization) . . . I know how to do this. I've searched and found no solutions to the problem, can anyone help? Thanks, Bill

Are this always the same apps that are missing? Which ones? Maybe the problem is with them?

This appears to have solved the problem:1: Right click the small white arrow on right of the task bar, and select Properties. A window will pop up - make sure you have all of the items you wish as ON.2. Read these instructions carefully. All the steps must be taken! Notification Area Icons - Reset 1. Open RegEdit.2. In RegEdit, scroll down to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify.3. In the right pane, highlight both IconStreams and PastIconsStream.4. Right click on these two and click Delete.5. Click Yes for the confirmation prompt.6. Close RegEdit.7. Open the Task Manager and, in the Processes tab, stop Explorer.exe.8. Restart Explorer.exe by entering Ctrl-Alt-Delete, Task Manager, Applications, New Task, Explorer.exe . This step is very important!9. Logoff and logon, or restart the computer to apply the changes.

This works for me, but the problem returns. i've had to do this every week to get access to my Infineon security suite that only offer the tray icon as access. What is the root cause of this? Thanks! - Daniel
