Why are my desktop icons disappearing and/or changing every time my system reboots in Windows 7?????
I have just gotten a new Windows 7 system - moving off Windows xp -- reluctantly to say the least. I've had the new system for only a few days now - Windows 7 professional - WHAT a horror!!!!!! WHAT is the deal with the desktop icons disappearing and/or changing? This keeps happening - so far, mostly to my office icons The other thing is something keeps putting a 'desktop.ini' file on my desktop -- WHERE is that coming from??? This is a pretty simple system - windows 7 professional - lenovo thinkpad - I've installed small business edition Office 2003, windows mail (to replace outlook express), and lotus smartsuite -- the outlook files from xp can't be read on this system - though they can be read on two other windows xp systems without problems...... and this bit with the icons is making me nuts...... and now I see all sorts of entries in this forum -- from THREE YEARS ago -- saying they have had the problem for years-- is anyone fixing this?

I do understand your pain, but technical aspects of Windows 7 are discused and solved here. Would you specify in more detailes the setting and environment you are working in. Also more information on migration is needed. Thank for understanding Milos

Hi, For Disktop.ini file, it is a pre-set by System. You can hidden this file and not display Hidden Files to make it disappear from your Desktop. For the Desktop Icons disappearing question, please right-click on your desktop=>Choose View, then check the Option "Show desktop Icons"Juke Chou TechNet Community Support
