Why Windows keep detecting ip address such as 169.254.201.217/16 Both on Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

Why Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 (Even Windows 7) detects ip network address 169.254.201.217/16 on my computer???

I keep getting that most of the time.

That is a local IP and is indicative that your computer cant connect.  It might be Comodo, or it might be a driver.  We need more info

Did this just start happening, if so did you just install any software?

etc.

It belongs to your computer.  It is assigned when the network adapter cannot connect.  There is probably a configuration issue with the driver or OS.

It may be blocked in your hosts file but that ip problem needs to be fixed.

Hi

This is my host files.

# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.

# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
#      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server
#       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1       localhost
# ::1             localhost

And this is my network files.

You need to fix the adapter issue FIRST!!!  Until you do I cant help you.  The IP doesnt belong to anyone but you, you see it because there is a configuration problem.  It has nothing to do with Adobe, that is another problem.

I would start by removing Comodo, and re-installing the network driver.  Let me know if you need help with that.

Hi,

First question: you can try to use ipconfig /all command to check your local IP address. In addition, in your screenshot, you can uncheck the option Do not detect new networks again.

Second question: is there any error message when you couldnt access to adobe site, you can try to use ping www.adobe.com command to check whether the site can be connected by this way. Also please try to disable your firewall for test.

If you need further assistance on this particular issue or any other Windows related issue, let us know and we will be glad to assist you.

I think you guys are missing the point entirely.

When I configure a machine I do it with a static IP address.

I never expect to see 169.254.x.x

I expect to see my static IP Address. For some reason, a static IP Address configuration such as the following:

IPaddress: 192.168.240.193

netmask: 255.255.252.0

Gateway: 192.168.240.1

seems to revert to a 169.254.x.y It has no business doing so, since it is a static allocation.

If you run the troubleshooter, it ends up blowing away the static IP Config. Replacing with a DHCP configuration. This seems very wrong.
