Why Can't I log into my Work PC remotely?
Hi there.
I have searched and tried everything for answers here. Basically I have 2 PCs both running on Windows 7 Ultimate (both 32 bit).
The PCs are called PC-W and PC-H
I want to connect to PC-W remotely (in a Local Area Network) using PC-H
When I attempt to connect it asks for my username and password for PC-W. When I type it in it says my credentials are invalid.
I have added the user to (on PC-W and PC-H) as a member of "Remote Desktop Users", both PCs are allowed to make remote connections and the firewall allows remote connections.
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
Thanks
Peter

Have you allowed Remote Desktop in the System - Remote settings control panel?
You might try to temporarily turn off the firewalls completely just to be sure that the firewall is not the case. Sure, you should enable it back as soon as you are done with the tests.

Hi there.
When I attempt to connect it asks for my username and password for PC-W. When I type it in it says my credentials are invalid.
If you're getting that far, you probably don't have security software or firewall issue, but you will need to see if the username you're using is allowed remote desktop access. On PC-W, click
Start then type remote into the search box. When
Allow remote access to your computer comes up, click it. Go through the settings in the Remote Desktop section.
Is the user ID you're logging in with of the following form? PC-W\UserName

Try using remote connection under "windows explorer", "network", right click the pc you wish to remote.

Just to be sure, when you try to connect to PC-W from PC-H, you should be entering credentials you use to login to the PC-W. Also, how are you using to connect to the remote PC? An IP address or a computer name? Kindly specify these parameters. Can you ping
one PC from another?
