Where is the network map

On Windows 7, we had a network map to help us to find issues with the network. Is it totally removed. There is no public (nor internal?) documentation about new network features of Windows 8.

Do we have any official topic about it?

I have the same question for ad-hoc network. There is no more UI to set up an ad-hoc network. That's just a shame. It is present for years and just like that, it disappear?

1. As far as I know, the network map feature misses on win 8, but I don't find any article to confirm this.

2. Yes, the Manage Wireless Networks UI is removed on win8. If you want to configure ad-hoc network, I suggest you to use the netsh command to achieve this. This post has example:

Yes both features are removed for fun. See Features removed in Windows 8 article.

So then there's a great, free network mapping tool we can download somewhere, right?

Right?

No there is no free network mapping tool availlible.

You can see the network mapping however in the explorer under network.

This feature is not much like the Windows 7 mapping. So I am really missing this, because my networks dissappeared and there seems to be no way to get them back although I have normal internet-acces.
