We need a start menu . Please return start menu.

You might want to stay with Windows Xp. It has a start menu. This is what company is planing to do for the next few years. Jumping to Linux might be learing curve for people.

Employees need a start menu. That is as simple as people need water to live.

Has Ubuntu been tested with people?
Yes. They are having an easier time adjusting than Windows 8.1. Mostly it is that it has a start menu that people know how to use.

Hey I saw your tweet.

Yes, I am having this same problem. I bought a Laptop from Best Buy and had to return it because could not get the Start Menu to work on Windows 8.1 I went to Microcenter and got a laptop with Windows 7. I am happy now.

Windows 7 has a start menu. The best thing in the world that you need. I never thought I would miss it until it was gone.

Get Windows 7. It has a start menu. Get now before MS stops selling it. Microcenter has great deal on Windows 7.

If you bought Windows 8.1, go back to store and return it. Get your money back.

My five year old could not figure it out. The start screen was too difficult to figure out. The start menu is easier to use.

Have same problem. Have vote up this post.

I can not use my desktop. The start screen is impossible to get basic tasks done.

I tried a third party app and got a virus from it.  It was a shell classic start menu. Defender did not stop it. I had to wipe my computer and now do not use my desktop. I brought my Windows Xp from storage.

Will there be a solution for this or do I have a big paper weight for the desktop with Windows 8.1?/p>

October 28th, 2013 10:17pm

While I agree that Microsoft is being over-stubborn in not having a proper Start Menu in Windows 8.1, still I don't understand why you don't simply allow use one of the many third-party apps for Start Button and Start menu. There are 10 or more of them, some free others inexpensive. I've tested most of them and they're all quite good, with the same basic features and some variations between them.

Personally I've been using Classic Shell, since switching from Windows XP to Windows 7 and finding that the Vista/7 start menu was one long, unfriendly vertical list of program entries (I had to scroll 3 or 4 times to reach the bottom of the programs list in the native Vista/7 menu, a woeful implementation by Microsoft).

This is an effective way to get back the Start Menu, with the drama and effort of switching to Linux. (Not that I''ve got anything against Linux.)
