It depends on the Windows version you are running: in the oldest Windows 9x platform, the Registry was stored in the System.dat and User.dat files located in the %SYSTEMROOT% folder (e.g.: C:\WINDOWS). In the NT-like Windows OSs, the Registry is stored in a set of files located in the %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\Config folder.
