Where do i find the Certificates location on hard drive which are stored via IE browser
Hi Daniel, Thanks for the quick response :-) Yeah i knew can do it through Export and Import option using certmgr.msc option which i had tried few times and was successful. But i wanted something like whether we can do it through registry entry migration or moving the file system where the certificates are stored in it kind. Do you have any idea on this? I dont want to launch the tool and do it, but want to do it programatically say moving the registry entry along with the file system or folder something like that so that i don't use tool such as certmgr.msc for this. Any help or thoughts kindly let me know. -AshokAshok S

Hi, I am navigating to this location in IE 9.0 such as -> Tools->Internet Options -> Content-> Certificates on Windows XP SP2 machine I find the columns such as Personal, Other People, Intermediate Certification Authorities, Trusted Root Certification Authorities, Trusted Publishers, Untrusted Publishers I want to know where the Certificates are located on the hard drive or on the store, the certificates are stored so that i can migrate those certificates from WinXP to Windows 7 (which has IE 9.0 installed). The sole purpose is to migrate the above certiificates from source to destination machine. I couldn't find a location where these certificates are physically located so that i can blindly copy or even registry entry if exists in achieving this. Please help me with this. Also, I noticed that there is SystemCertificates folder under AppData. What role does this folder have or help wrt Certificates stored via browser as said above. Any help/info wrt above, kindly reply me asap. -Ashok Ashok S

Hi, Before moving on, I would like to let you know that IE9 cannot be installed on any version of Windows XP. Now, let us focus on certificates issue. The Certificates are stored as Registry keys. You can find them from the following location in Registry Editor. [HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\] [HKCU\Software\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\] If you want to back up them, you need to export these registry keys. Actually, export and import certificates via Certificates Manager directly should be more easier. Kim Zhou TechNet Community Support

Thanks Kim :) Ok will try the above steps you mentioned and then import it onto the destination machine wrt Certificates. For IE 9.0 , i said that IE 9.0 is installed on Win7 (which is destination machine). My source machine is XP with IE8.0 So wanted to know things wrt Certificates even in this case. Ashok S
