Where can I find out about W7 memory management
One ofthe good things about Vista was Superfetch - the way it preloaded intoRAM the programs anddata it "expected" you to use - based on past usage patterns. It made an enormous difference to the launch times of the programs that I usefrequently. One "symptom" of Superfetch was quite a lot of disk activityafter startup, as these files were read from disk into memory. Some (irrational) people complained about this, finding the disk activity irritating. Personally I didn't care about the disk activity and appreciated the performance gains.I've noticedthat W7 does far less disk activity after startup. Does this mean that Superfetch has been removed, or at least throttled right back? My question is, does anybody know the answer? Has Superfetch and the memory management regime changed in W7? Why does W7 do so much less disk activity after startup?Any pointers to where information on this might be available? Thanks in advance,Thack

Superfetch was not removed, it has been enhanced. Detailed information is still waiting to be published, so can't give you some pointers, sorry.

I am verykeen to know if there's anything new on this subject. Having beentesting outbuild 7057 (64bit) for about tendays I see Superfetch doing relatively speakingvery little work, especially for my games that run from another drive. I'm about to do some tests with games on the system drive to see if that makes a difference but I hope that's not it. With Vista I used to have some 6GB worthof RAM superfetched and ready to go after about 10-15min depending on use, now it's more like 500MB being preloadedat the most. Just a wee bit anxious about one of my favorite features even if I realise this mightsimply be a build matter.
