When using the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, do the files and settings you accept from the old computer overwrite those of the account you are using to accept the transfer?
This detail was not included in on the Microsoft Support Site for the wizard. Fortunately this is on my personal home computer, so ultimately it does not make a difference. However, if I can control the outcome of the process, it would be appreciated. In this case, I'm not transferring the "true" Administrator's account to a new machine; but, rather an account that was established after the original installation of Windows XP. The account hasn't been renamed (this is yet another wrinkle to the problem, however.) Another factor is that I am transferring from an OEM system to a clean Windows XP Pro Install. Currently, my "new" computer has only one account called "Administrator". The possible outcomes would be: a new account is created on the new (receiving) computer that is identical to the account on the old computer. prior to the acceptance of the transfer, I have to create a new account with the old name. Would the fallout of this create a double account of the same name? If the latter occurs? I don't know if I've devoted more time formulating my question and asking it than it would have taken to conduct the transfer itself. I do believe it is less time than backing up the system as it stands, then executing the transfer only to find that things did not work out the way I had wanted so I'd have to restore my backup and try again.1 person needs an answerI do too
