When printing from one website within Internet Explorer it crashes the print spooler, works fine in Google Chrome
Bit of a strange one this.... The pc is running windows 7 32 bit, Internet Explorer 9, printing to a Xerox Phaser 6128MFP Printer via local ip address I am able to print from standard websites fine. When using HSBC Business banking, and then trying to print from the site, the spooler will crash and cannot be restarted. Its then a case of going into safe mode, deleting drivers directory and the spooler and then restarting. Using the same windows profile and the same web browser and the same internet address, someone else can log into the website and use it in exactly the same way and it will works fine, but for the other person when they try and print it will crash the spooler. Its the same sort of information being printed just from two different banking logons. If you do the same using Google Chrome it works fine for all users. So far I have: - Cleared cookies etc, via CCleaner Reset Internet Explorer to defaults Disabled Internet Explorer add-ins Installed a different printer driver Changed the print spool options for this printer Turned Internet Explorer off and then on again as a windows feature Would really appreciate some guidance. We don't have any other printers here and no other pc's look to have this problem. Thanks.

Hi, Before going any further, I would like to verify these situations: 1 Did this issue only occur with HSBC Business banking website? 2 What error message did you receive when print form that site? And what error message when you restart printer spooler service? I suggest to perform these tests to troubleshoot the issue: 1 Logon with Clean Boot to see if the same issue occurs. Some third party tools may conflict with it. 2 Make sure the Printer driver is support to Windows 7 32 bit, you can download the driver on: http://www.support.xerox.com/support/phaser-6128mfp/downloads/enus.html?operatingSystem=win7 Please Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information. 3 Since someone could print on that PC and others will have issue, you can try to rename the user profile of that corrupted user, and let them login again for test. If the issue persists, you can also try to remove IE9, and use IE8 to see the result. Hope that helps. Regards, Leo Huang TechNet Subscriber Support in forum. Hi, Go to Start / Run and type in "services.msc" without quotation marks, then press Enter or click OK. In the window that opens (Services) look for "Print Spooler" on the right Right-click "Print Spooler" and select "Properties". Click on the "Recovery" tab and change all 3 drop-down boxes to "Restart The Service". Make sure the 2 text boxes underneath say "1" in them. Click Ok until you are back at the Services window, close it and you're good to go. Go back into the properties of the "Print Spooler" tab and be sure to click Start to restart the Print Spooler service and it will restart the service immediately. The Print spooler depends on the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service. Is this service disabled? Go to services.msc look for RPC. Check state: Automatic

Uninstall all old versions of Java in Add\ remove programs, then vist Java.com and install the latest version. Jave 6 Update25 for 32-bit. HSBC uses it. Probably the issue. Then confirm that the printer is installed correctly; http://www.support.xerox.com/support/phaser-6128mfp/support/enus.html Uninstall anything xerox phaser related and reboot and follow the Xerox support. The fact that you have CC Cleaner installed and in use is troublesome. You may be creating more problems. Those voodoo tools are not needed. Open IE and hit CTRL+Shift+Delete to clear the browser.

Hi All, Here is the latest update I have now tried the following Removed the old version of Java Installed the latest version of Java Checked that he printer driver is 32 bit Followed through the clean boot option Set the recovery options in the print spooler but the problem still exists :-( So, apart from trying a different user profile (which I will do shortly) any other suggestions on what I can try? Thanks for all your suggestions so far.

Hi, Use another user account and logon is also a test you can try. Furthermore, you can try to remove IE9, then use IE8 to printer to see if the same issue occurs. Uninstall all other browsers except IE 8 or 9. Reboot. Start=>Control Panel=>Programs=>Default programs set IE 8 or 9 as the default browser. This is a work computer and does not need 3rd party browsers and user changes that cause problems. Make the luser a standard user and prohibit changes.

This is a good find. I was experiencing the same issues and resolved them using this workaround. Posted here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie9-windows_7/ie9-crashes-print-spooler-when-printing-from/dfe0e989-b559-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5?page=2 While I haven't found a fix I was able to make recovering the print spooler automatic with a batch file and changes to the Print Spooler service recovery options. Here is what I did: Create a batch file with Notepad with the following line and save it in the Public Documents folder with the name "Spooler.bat": del C:\windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS /f /s /q Then open the Services application with "Run as Administrator" option selected. Locate the Print Spooler service and stop it. Then right-click and select Properties. Go to the Recover tab and you will see three Failure options, set them as follows: First Failure: Restart service Second Failure: Restart Service Subsequent Failures: Run a program Reset fail count after: 0 days Restart Service after: 0 minutes In the Run Program/Program area enter the name of the batch file you created above: C:\Users\Public\Documents\spooler.bat Click Apply This will automatically clear the spooler cach and restart the service. It doesn't solve the crashing issue though. This problem has come and goen on this computer before. I was able to print google maps before a Windows Update in the last week of June 2011. I hope Microsoft can find a fix for this bug.
