When logging on to a Windows 7 machine domain profile I am pushed to a Server 2008 R2 Enviroment
I recently changed all of my computers over to my new Domain. I am moving from a Server 2003 Machine to a Server 2008 R2 Machine. Moving all but one of the Windows 7 computers over to the new domain was as easy as changing the DNS and then Changing the Domain Name on the Local Machine. I was then able to restart the computer and logon using Server\User (User is variable). I am on the last machine and it has me stumped. I Joined the new domain and restarted the Com. Now when I log-on using Server\User I am logged onto a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enviroment that has no access to any programs located on the local machine. It is almost like I am being pushed into a Remote Desktop Enviroment. Any programs that would normally run on startup display a message stating that it cannot be found and asks if I want to use the internet to find a solution. Anybody have any suggestions or seen this before? Thanks in Advanced!

1. What do you mean by "Domain"? Is it Active Directory of DNS domain? In the first case the proper logon is domain\user. 2. I have never heard about this phenomenon. However you have not specified your migration process in details. More details would be helpful. Regards Milos

1. It is an Active Directory. I use Server\Greg to log onto the machine with the issue. My domain is Server.atlc.local 2. To migrate users I have a. Built new user accounts on the new Domain (all 6 accounts are set up the same short of mine which has full admin rights) b. Changed the DNS server on the local machine to that of the Domain. c. Changed the Domain of the Local Machine to the new domain. d. I restart the computer to apply the changes All machines had no problem logging onto the new domaing except Gregs. When I log on to the new domain via Server\Greg it sends me to a Server 2008 R2 looking desktop with virtually no access to anything on the local machine. I have to log off and log onto the local machine itself Greg-PC\Greg in order to change the domain back. After another restart I am able to log onto Sunrivertelco\Greg (my old domain) with no issues

Hi, I suggest you try the following steps to verify this issue. 1. Use Gregs account to log on using another domain joined computer to see the result. 2. Use this computer to join the new domain and then use the other domain account to log on for a test. 3. Rename Gregs account to .old to test the issue. Regards. Vincent Wang TechNet Community Support
