Hi I started having this problem a couple of days ago. I boot my PC and it shows me the logon screen where I can make the choice between Administrator, Standard User 1 an Standard User 2. When I click on one of these users, I go into the screen where I have to type my password. When I try to do that, nothing happens - no characters appear when I type. The only solution is to reboot my computer. Now it works correctly. First boot = problem Reboot = OK. Any ideas ? any solution ? Thanks

Did you try left clicking on the spot where you enter the password first? Jerry

Hi Mike Sorry for the delay in answering your post. I have tried to reproduce the problem. It appeared since a couple of days after almost every first boot, andsince yesterday I didn't want to show up again. But now I am pretty sure that I've been able to reproduce it: There is apparently never a problem when I shut down my machine via the Start button (the round Windows orb). It looks like the problem appears in 1 out of 2 or 3 cases when I shut down my machine (a netbook) with it's on/off switch. This problem started to happen a couple of days ago. I have my netbook since a couple of months and I have always shut it down via it's on/off switch without any problem at reboot. I also had a look into the event viewer but I don't see anything unusual that might point in that boot/password problem.

Try this : Go to Start > Start Search > type Device Manager and click on it go to your HID keyboard, right click and uninstall it. DO NOT RESTART. now go to Universal Serial Bus Controller and double click on Generic USB HUB. Click on Power Management and untick "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" This should work for both USB wired or wireless mouse and keyboard. Thank you Freak05

Hi Freak05 Thanks for your post. I do not see the HID keybord and the Universal Serial Bus Controller in the Device Manager. Things are completely different compared to my Desktop. My computer is an Acer One Netbook - maybe that is the reason ? Another difficulty is that my Windows 7 on the netbook is in French (I live in France for the time being and we cannot buy computers with an English Windows here). That means that I have some translation to do between the English and the French Device Manager.

Hi, Please follow the steps below that might help you troubleshoot your issue: 1. Try uninstalling any keyboard software in "Programs and Features"(Click on Start, Control Panel>Programs and Features). 2. Next check Device Manager and uninstall the keyboard devices there too. The "Found Hardware Wizard" should reinstall the keyboard, hopefully fixing your problem. You may also visit your keyboard manufacturer’s website and download the driver software and install it. Hi Sloeberke, Are you using Wireless Mouse and Keyboard? Can you try to attach msinfo32 for our reference on your hardware? To do that, you need to go to Start > type msinfo32 in the Start Search box and Press Enter. Once open, click on File > Save > and save it to your desktop. Hi Freak 05 My netbook is traveling without me today. I will do the MSINFO32 exercise as soon as I have it back under my fingertips. In the meantime, I can already tell you that : - I use the keyboard of the netbook - I use a wireless mouse : a Logitech M305 with one of these very small transmitter/receivers (which is very close to and visble by the mouse). Thanks already very much for your help, I will come back to you with the MSINFO32 info later today or tomorrow at the latest.

I am hesitating to uninstall a driver or software of which I do not know where to get it from Sabrina. My netbook came with Windows 7 Starter Edition for which there is a re-install procedure. I upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium via Any Time Upgrade. What if deleting the driver(s) or software for my keyboard would bring me into a situation without access to my machine ? That would be an even worse problem than the one I already have - don't you think so.

why not backup previously and restore the system if the action fails?
