Whats up with wireless networking?
I think there are enough posts detailing wireless network dropping after 1/2 to 1 hour to indicate there is a real problem. Most of the tips and suggestions provided by users give limited, if any improvement. Many of the problems seem to occur with Linksys hardware. Most users have tried using the stable Vista drivers rather than the versions from MS Update, but other than improved latency, there is no benefit. The network still drops. So, what is the root cause of this? Clearly there is a difference between the way Win7 and Vista access and refresh the NIC's causing the network to drop. But who do we look to for a fix - MS or the NIC provider? PLEASE Microsoft, give us an indication of whether this is a solvable problem and whether you will be issuing patch/drivers, or should we be pestering the NIC providers like Linksys for a compatible driver release? BOTTOM LINE: Unless the problem is resolved, there is NO WAY I can seriously consider to migrate to Windows 7 this October. I cannot live with an unstable system. I suggest other users with the same frustrations add to this post - maybe we'll get some resolution. Chris

What would be a good idea is if you do add to this post, to please note your NIC make and model. As i have an Atheros AR928x and I have had no problems with wireless as of yet.

No wireless issues with B / G onAtheros AR928x / intel / orinoco cards or onboard chipsLinksys "N" is not stable. "n" wants to take the whole channel 6 and half or 1 and half of 11, basic Jamming of the chanels use for other devicesput two"N" access withing reach of each other and the usable bandwidth drops to nothing and recooncets are a way of life. I had to kill the wireless on my linksys SRX-200 and in the real world of wi-fi installing I have seen nothing but issues with "n" causing drop outs and disconnects, not just Linksys early N devices but across the board. If your device allows it switch it to B/G only and test. The Meraki new "N" devices are working just fine but they do things so different than most vendors; it is had to compared them to the others out there. They arehigh dollar of home use, but if you have the need they do the job.
