What is the risk of resetting the Windows7 security local policy for NTLMv2?
Hi, we were trying to access a domain shared folder from win7 and win 2008 server. I was prompted to enter my domain\user id and password (but did not accept it). This was no problem accing the share from XP or Window 2003 server. I found the following article and reset the local policy settings on my win 7 and it worked. http://www.tannerwilliamson.com/2009/09/windows-7-seven-network-file-sharing-fix-samba-smb/ Now, I am concern about the risk of changing these settings. Please advise. Thanks, Ziba zibaK

Hi, You won’t be inforced to require the NTLM v2 and 128 bit encryption for authentication if you set as the article says. This will lower the security level and decrease the encryption strength.
