What is the purpose of renewing if you have hypothetically claimed *all* your keys?
Ok, first post regarding a seemingly contentious and well argued topic - but couldn't find the specific answers to the following: (BTW- I personally think Technet Subscriptions are a BRILLIANT way to trial everything). BUT why renew? I simply do not understand the system accurately enough (possibly due to dropping into boredom-induced narcolepsy when reading licensing drivel....... The two big and seemingly inadequately answered questions we surely all wanna know: Q1. I was under the same naive impression that renewing my subscription would provide two more keys for each product I've used (with around 10 activations per key). I'm at that stage where I just don't know how many activations I've used. So let's be hypothetical here and assume I've claimed all my keys during year one and used say 10 activations on every key (yes...potentially unlikely in the real world but who knows for tech-heads?). Does year TWO renewal provide the chance for more activations on a given key if needed (without having to beg! beg! beg! boy! over the phone)? Q2. Change of hypothetic parameters: As before, I claim all my keys during year one but this time I've used say only 3 activations on every key. I then CHOOSE to NOT renew. Now I bought the 'use' of the keys in year ONE yeah? And technically, I still have activations left on them yeah? The subscription now ends officially. What happens then? i.e. Can I still use the keys in my possession to activate on new h/w? And what happens to existing activated OSes/apps and servers post termination? Please help BigWallop understand why he renewed just now.... Thanks y'all BigWallop

Guess I looked like an ingrate... Should have worded things differently and got to the point over keys and the way they work. Yes, I do appreciate the chance to try new stuff but my job will be dealing with W7 and 2008R2 for a loooong while. W8 is not so relevant to our needs as our work moves snailpaced cp to the world. SO if anyone would like to actually answer the questions asked I'd be grateful Regs

I am not sure why you decided to post this here (it is not really a Windows 7 matter), but as far as I am aware you can continue to use keys allocated to you under Technet/MSDN subscriptions after they expire. Works for me. Bill
