What in the world did you change from Windows 7 beta to RC1 with respect to networking????????? Now I have no internet connection, multiple networks, unidentified public network...
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I dreaded having to remove the beta because it was working so well I just knew it couldn't last. Ever since instaling RC1, the network has decided to return to behaviors deeply rooted in it's microsoft DNA: It has become retarted. At least I can get an internet connection after booting up by disabling and enabling the network adapter. However, the normal state after booting up is that I have not internet connection, cannot see my internal network (nor the computers on it) and thus in my "network and sharing center" am presented with multiple networks and a big red x between that and the internet. My active networks: 1 being my home network that my other PCs in the house are on has no internet access anda retarded cousin is present as a park bench in an "unidentified network" that also has nointernet connection.Of course I cannot modify anything like being able to tell windows to ignore this unidentified connection or ask it to help me to understand it or perhaps ask of it to let me know what the ____ it changed in the RC1 release. As I mentioned, an adapter disable/enable has seemed to fix things so far. Another interesting thing is that upon boot-up, before an adapter disable/enable (so I have no internet connection and am showing the multiple network thing), when viewing the network tab within windows explorer I can see the computers in my network but obviously cannot connect to them. They all show up under the "computer" heading and my wireless router shows up under the "network infrastructure" heading. If I doubleclick on my wireless router nothing pops up but I lose the other computers on my network and they disappear from the "computer" heading. I then have an internet connection on the windows 7 PC but no network (other PCs and their access is gone!).Then after I disable/enable the adapter all the PCs, including my wireless router, appear in the "computer" heading under network in windows explorer,my router is also still listedunder the "network infrastructure" tab,the network and sharing window looks normal and everything is working as it should. What is this multiple network/unidentified public networkthing all about and why does a disable/enable fix it? Is there a way I can get this thing to behave as it did in the beta release? When I installed the beta it was from a formatted/clean state, as was the RC1, with a meticulous install of the identical programs in both cases. I had everything working in the beta of windows 7 (media centre worked well and played all formats - mkv, dvd folder files, etc., audio software was working flawlessly, all other software played well together). It was apparently too good to be true and I was hoping I could just shut off updates and live with that beta forever. Now, here we go again with all the problems us windows users have unfortunately come far too accustomedliving with. Please, is there anyone who can shed some light on what was changed in the network nature of the beta versus RC1, and can this be fixed?I have "print screens" from all 3scenarios, each showing windows explorer window, ipconfig/all fromthe dosscreen window, network and sharing windowand the network map window if this will help but it has to be something that is known by microsoft; they clearly significantly altered the network coding between beta and RC1. There is an article showing how this can be fixed in Vista (http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article04-500) but of course in windows 7, user intervention/ability to make decisions on our own has been further removed and thus there is no "customize" link that might enable us to reach out to the unidentified idiot and set them straight.Help please.Thank you.

You are not alone. BTW, is you handle: Dreaming o' fast able windows?? or something else... ~! The more 'control' is removed from the keyboard of the consumer, the more 'magic' computers will seem to become. We usta have that back in the days of VS1 and MVS, where the 'gurus' were behind glass walls on raised floors. Every new release means days [months] of figuring out how to do what you could do easily in the previous release. I've been out of the business for a while, so the 'features' of Vista and '7' don't appeal to me as they, IMO, add nothing to the 'experience'. Just more stuff to push into my head, and the print just gets smaller and smaller on the screen. I suggest to M'soft that they hire some old guys with old eyes and 17" or 19" screens. Then they will know the H*** they put us through. Make it big enough to read withouth squinting or being 2" from the screen, and you have to scroll left and right to read each line. Boy, I sure went off [topic] in this one... tw

BTW, is you handle: Dreaming o' fast able windows?? or something else... ~! I think it is: Dreaming of a stable windows

I like mine better. But if you insist, maybe some day there will be a stable windows. So far, it has not happened, and they've had ... mmmh.... since 1980-something or before to get *A* stable windows. I remember attending a show in the Moscone center where Windows was introduced, and memory says that was in the 1980's. Some windows were more stable than others, and progress has been made, but look at the handle. Why have such a handle if the dream was not being met? Either his or my interpretation would be satisfactory.. All in a humorous manner... tom

Hah, yes, either user name is fine. In my dreams Windows works beautifully. Unfortunately, like many dreams, it has to become any form of my reality. Anyway, hopefully someone may have an idea as to what is going on with this network issue. Thank you for your comments.Cheers!

Hmmm, I thought this was the official windows forum as per the emails I receive. Is there not anyone from MSFT who has a clue about this issue?

I had this too but only after I had installed and uninstalled VMWare.Network and Sharing Center, Connections: Local Area Connection.Pops up the Local Area Connection Status box.Click on the Diagnose button, that cleared it up.Now it shows (This Computer) --> Network --> Internet
