What does archiving pictures do?
In my attempt to clean up the pictures from my hard drive to flash drives, I checked the "Archive" button in "Picture Properties/General/Attributes" Now the folder only contains a file titled "Thumbnails". Did I delete all of my pictures?justjennifer14

What program are you talking about? If you are referring to the standard file properties dialog box ticking archive only sets or clears the Archive flag. When a file is modified the archive flag is set. This is all that windows does. It doesn't clear the flag. The flag has no effect on anything. Some backup programs, especially in the distant past, only backed up files that had the archive flag set then cleared the archive flag. This meant they only backed up files that had been changed since the last backup. These days Backup in Windows uses a completely different means to backup. -- .. -- "justjennifer14" wrote in message news:62ab5b0c-f085-435a-9dcd-ef41dcdf452a... > In my attempt to clean up the pictures from my hard drive to flash drives, > I checked the "Archive" button in "Picture Properties/General/Attributes" > Now the folder only contains a file titled "Thumbnails". Lets see if you also ticked the hidden flag. Shift + Right click the folder the files were in and choose Copy As Path. Click Start - All Programs - Accessories - Right click Command Prompt and choose Run As Administrator. Type Dir /a then a space and right click in the window and choose paste. Press Enter. Does it list your files. Lets search the hard disk for your files. Type in a command prompt Dir /a /s c:\filename.ext Where you replace filename.ext with a name from one of your files. If you can' tremember the full name try searching for all jpeg and jpg. dir /a /s c:\*.jpg dir /a /s c:\*.jpeg To have the results one page at a time append |more dir /a /s c:\*.jpg|more dir /a /s c:\*.jpeg|more -- .. -- "DavidMCandy" wrote in message news:d0d26fd6-979d-4de4-9b3a-a6ccb3a115f1... > What program are you talking about? > > If you are referring to the standard file properties dialog box ticking > archive only sets or clears the Archive flag. > > When a file is modified the archive flag is set. Simply in Windows Vista, I'm just trying to find my pictures that I moved to a flash drive. I do have the flash drive plugged in and am accessing it through Windows. I had a folder for each year that I moved to it, it is plugged into my G: drive. Under the folder's "properties" (right click on folder & select properties) and under the "general" tab, "attributes", the "archive button" checked.justjennifer14
