What does Windows 7 back up create exactly on the destination back up drive please?
This is my first query here. I have a dual-boot set-up with XP Pro 32 on one HD and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 set up on a second hard drive. I use "Handy Back Up" by Novosoft and have for years to back up "My Documents" to a storage drive from my XP Pro HD (a third storage hard drive) I bought/installed another hard drive to clean-install Windows 7 on and boot into one or the other OS at need. I would like to use the built in Back Up feature of Windows 7 to back up the Win 7 "My Documents" but I do not know what to expect exactly what the feature will do to my existing storage drive that already contains preexisting folders of my XP Pro back ups which I want to maintain separately. I then plan to back up the entire storage drive to my existing on line Mozy account. Will Windows 7 back up create a separate folder and leave my existing back ups alone or will it "take over" and overwrite my existing back ups? I have been unable to find out the answer to this question by search and existing documentation. I would rather not find out the hard way what does happen.

Hi David,The windows backup will create its own folders inside the external hard disk and doesnt interfere with your other files. No worries. Can start using backup right away.Thanks,S.Soudamini.This posting is provided "AS IS" without warranties and confers no rights.

The file types of the backup results from Windows XP and Windows 7 are different. The backup result from Windows XP will not be covered.Arthur Xie - MSFT
